THE AWARDS PROCESS

Stage 1 - Nominations
Nominations are open from Monday 7th January until COB Friday 25th January

  • Nominations are made anonymously and are non binding
  • any retailer and any brand can nominate and be nominated in any relevant category
  • retailers and brands may self nominate in relevant categories
  • only basic information is required at this time
  • SRF will provide a summary of nominations for each Brand or Retailer at the close of nominations

Stage 2 - Acceptance
Acceptances open Monday 28th January and close Monday 11th February 2013
  • Brands and Retailers must accept their nomination for each of the categories they wish to be nominated in
  • Each nomination requires a brief description that will be used in voting links
  • Submissions for judged categories must be lodged by the close of acceptances date
  • Non SRF Members and Sponsors are required to pay an administration fee of $100 per nomination per category upon their acceptance
  • Brands are only able to accept two nominations per category
  • Products and campaigns must have been in the market or current in the last 12 months 

Stage 3 - Voting / Judging
Voting & Judging opens Wednesday 20th February 2013 and closes Tuesday 5th March 2013



NOMINATIONS
Nominations for all categories closed Friday 25th January 2013, award categories are grouped into:

Nominations are open to all Surf Industry Retailers, Brands and suppliers subject to meeting SRF membership/sponsorship criteria. 

Retail Nominations - 

SRF Member nomination acceptances are free. For non SRF members there are two options;

1. join as a BASE Member which is free which means nomination acceptances are then free or www.surfretailers.com.au/Membership/Online_Application
2. remain a non member and pay an administration fee of $110 (inc GST) per nomination per category before voting begins.

You will need to give a brief description of your shop(s) and any other info you feel relevant with a maximum of 400 characters including spaces (hint; type it out in a word doc to keep tabs of the character count) The information that you provide will be used in the voting link for brands and public vote.

Where an award category is judged, it requires a written submission. Nominees for judged categories will receive a PDF detailing the category criteria.

Brand & Product Nominations - 

SRF Sponsor acceptances are free. For non SRF Sponsors there are two options;

1. become a Base Sponsor ($500+GST) which means nomination acceptances are then free or

www.surfretailers.com.au/Sponsors/base_sponsorship

2. remain a non Sponsor and pay an administration fee of $110 (inc GST) per nomination per category before voting begins.

For each category you accept you need to provide some info including the Product / Campaign Name & an explanation of how the product / campaign addresses the voting criteria relevant with a maximum of 400 characters including spaces (hint; type it out in a word doc to keep tabs of the character count)

The information that you provide will be used in the voting link for retailers and where applicable, public vote. 

Where an award category is judged, it requires a written submission. Nominees for judged categories will receive a PDF detailing the category criteria.

      VOTING

      The simple voting premise is:

      Retailers vote for Product and Brand categories / Brands vote for Retailer categories

      INDUSTRY VOTE

      Categories that have both a public vote and an industry vote are weighted 20% Public Vote / 80% Industry Vote as above.

      Product and Brand Award Categories that include an Industry Vote weighting can be voted on by any Surf Retailer provided they are eligible under the membership criteria to join. Naturally members of the Surf Retailers Federation Inc are eligible to vote.

      Only one vote counts per category per business or membership. Where a retail member has multiple retail offerings only one vote will count. SRF Sponsors cannot vote on Product and Brand awards categories.

      Retailer Categories that include an Industry Vote weighting can only be voted on by Sponsors of the Surf Retailers Federation Inc.

      Only one vote counts per state office per Sponsorship, where a Sponsor has multiple brands only one vote will count.  SRF Retailer Members cannot vote on Retailer categories.

      VOTING LINK

      Surf Retailers Federation Inc Members will be directed to a website containing information on all entries they are eligible to vote on and will cast their votes for the top three entries in each category, via an online voting site.

      To vote, they will be asked to rank their top three in each category from 1st to 3rd. Corresponding points will be given to each ranking: 1st = 5 points; 2nd = 3 points; 3rd = 1 point

      JUDGED CATEGORIES VOTE

      A Judging Panel, or Panels, will be approved by the Surf Retailers Federation Inc Board of Directors. The Panel(s) will be made up of SRF Inc Members, Sponsors and Board members as the Board sees fit.

      The Judging Panel(s) will review the relevant submissions and information provided with the category nomination to assist in determining their vote.

      The Judges will be sent the submissions and asked to cast their votes via an online voting site.

      To vote, they will be asked to rank their top five in each category from 1 to 5, with 1 being highest. Corresponding points will be given to each ranking: 1st = 10 points; 2nd = 8 points; 3rd = 6 points; 4th = 4 points; 5th = 2 points

      PUBLIC VOTE

      To create interest and excitement around the awards it is vital to include a Public Vote element to a number of categories. Weighting of the Public Vote for those Categories is 20% of the total vote with Industry Vote accounting for 80%.

      Categories that include a Public Vote weighting will be promoted through Surf Retailers Federation media partners; Coastal Watch, Surfing World and Australian Surfing Business Magazine (ASB). Imagery, Banner ads and the public voting link will be provided to Surf Retailers Federation Media Partners Coastalwatch and Surfing World, Members and Sponsors to drive the vote. The public will be incentivised to vote via giveaways and prize packs.

      The public will be directed to a website containing the information on all entries they are eligible to vote on and will cast their votes for the top five entries in each category, via an online voting site.

      To vote, they will be asked to rank their top three in each category from 1st to 3rd. Corresponding points will be given to each ranking: 1st = 5 points; 2nd = 3 points; 3rd = 1 points

      FINALISTS

      The top 5 nominees in each category with the highest number of points after the various weightings are applied will be announced as category finalists at the Gala Awards Night.

      WINNERS

      The highest placed in each category will be announced at the Gala Awards Ceremony as the category winners.


      AWARDS AND TROPHIES

      FINALISTS

      Category finalists will receive a framed “Finalist” certificate and will be provided with and entitled to use the “Finalist” logo for that category to use in marketing and promotions as they see fit.

      WINNERS

      Category winners will receive a trophy and will have the opportunity to purchase additional replica trophies to provide to state offices, retailers etc. Category winners will be provided with and entitled to use “Winner” logo and award trophy imagery for that category to use in marketing and promotions as they see fit.
